It had long been his intention to stand down following the museum’s opening in October 2024 as he embarks on a number of new international duties.
Malta International Contemporary Arts Space (MICAS) extended its deepest gratitude to Sultana for his exceptional contribution as board member and his service on the MICAS Creative Committee.
“As Francis steps down from his role, MICAS recognises his contribution in shaping the institution and solidifying its place on the international art scene,” MICAS executive chairperson Phyllis Muscat said.
Since MICAS’s inception in 2018, Francis Sultana has been instrumental in forging meaningful connections between MICAS and the global contemporary art world.
“His expertise and dedication played a pivotal role in realising MICAS’s mission, ensuring that Malta is firmly positioned as a dynamic hub for contemporary artistic expression,” Muscat said.
As Malta’s Ambassador for Culture, Sultana has been a driving force in championing MICAS on the international stage. His ability to bridge the gap between Malta’s artistic heritage and the evolving global art landscape has left an enduring legacy.
Sultana supported MICAS in fostering relationships with some of the world’s leading artists, institutions, and collectors, paving the way for future collaborations and creative exchanges.
The board and staff at MICAS are delighted that Sultana has pledged to continue supporting the museum and to promote its activities globally.
