Elisabeth Conrad is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Division of Environmental Management and Planning of the Institute of Earth Systems of the University of Malta. Professor Conrad holds a doctoral degree from the Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences at the University of Wales (Aberystwyth) as well as a Master of Science degree in Environmental Management from Imperial College, University of London. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Malta. Professor Conrad also holds adjunct status as Assistant Professor within the Department of Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University, Virginia, and currently coordinates a dual degree offered jointly by James Madison University and the University of Malta. She is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas and the Species Survival Commission within the International Union for Conservation of Nature and regularly serves as an evaluator and ethics reviewer for the European Commission. She has worked in both public and private sectors in fields related to environmental management locally. 

Professor Conrad has also been actively involved in several international research initiatives over the years, spanning subject areas including coastal management, biodiversity conservation, sustainability indicators, stakeholder participation and others, working particularly but not exclusively in the Mediterranean region. Furthermore, she collaborates, in various capacities, with international organisations including the International Ocean Institute (IOI), the Centre for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). She also remains actively involved as a practitioner in the field of environmental management in Malta, particularly in the field of environmental impact assessment. Her research work is interdisciplinary, with a particular interest in human-nature interactions, nature connectedness, place attachment, and related constructs, as well as in participatory decision-making. Other areas of research interest include land-use and landscape planning and management, as well as participatory decision-making.
