Internationally acclaimed artist Cristina Iglesias will be discussing her latest work Sea Cave (Entrance), giving insights into her distinctive sculptural vocabulary and her profound engagement with public spaces. As a prolific artist, her work ranges from suspended pavilions, latticed panels, passageways and mazes, horizontal fountains to walls imbued with texts and structural and vegetative forms. It can be found in inner-city spaces or remote islands all over the world, offering viewers opportunities for contemplative experiences. Cristina Iglesias significantly brings into being outdoor structures and installations using water as an integral element, soliciting the viewer to pensively follow the water’s flow and surge progressions. She offers compositions of many layers, textures, illusionary depths, and created sequences: metaphors for memory, life, and uncovering what is underneath.
In her work, Cristina Iglesias articulates a unique sculptural language, creating immersive and experiential environments that unite architecture, literature, and culturally site-specific influences. She redefines space by confounding interior and exterior, organic and artifice, combining industrial materials with natural elements to produce unexpected new sensory sites for the viewer.
