Waqas Wajahat

Chair of the International Committee, MICAS

Waqas Wajahat built his collection with a deep commitment to connoisseurship, scholarship, and philanthropy. After studying at the University of Pennsylvania and the Barnes Foundation, he gained formative curatorial experience at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, developing expertise in post-war and contemporary art.

Since 2002, he has served as a close advisor to the Milton Avery Trust and the Sally and Milton Avery Arts Foundation. He has initiated and helped produce numerous museum exhibitions, including significant surveys and retrospectives on Milton Avery, Herbert Ferber, Neil Jenney, Alexis Rockman, Richard Pousette-Dart, James Prosek, Sean Scully, Donald Sultan, and John Walker.

A committed advocate and supporter of cultural institutions, Waqas is the founding Chair of the International Committee at Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS) and serves on the Chairman’s Council at the Norton Museum of Art. He is a trustee of the Drawing Center and the Morris Museum and sits on advisory and collections committees at the Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

In the United Kingdom, he is a member of the Royal Academy of Arts’ Chair Circle, a founding patron of the Goodwood Art Foundation, and a member of the Campaign Board of the Courtauld.

For the past decade, he has focused exclusively on his collecting, emphasizing women artists, Indian Mughal-period miniatures, and mid-century furniture.
