Senior Officer (Marketing & Publications)

The Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS) is seeking applications from suitable candidates to perform duties of Senior Officer (Marketing and Publications). This post is on a full-time basis and is subject to a probational period of twelve (12) months.

The Senior Officer (Marketing & Publications) reports to the Executive (Marketing & Communications), the Artistic Director, and the Chief Executive Officer. S/he will be required to work on MICAS’s publications, coordinate and distribute press releases, as well as plan and implement marketing campaigns. This role is primarily hands-on and involves working as part of a team.

Main Responsabilities

Publications & Exhibition Catalogues

  • Coordinates, proofreads and edits the production of high-quality printed materials including exhibition catalogues, and MICAS’s publications.
  • Liaises with curators, editors, designers, translators, and printers to deliver publications on time and within budget.
  • Ensures content accuracy, consistency in tone, and alignment with the MICAS brand and curatorial guidelines.
  • Maintains editorial calendars and content archives.

 

Press & Media Relations

  • Coordinates and distributes press releases related to exhibitions, events, artists talks, open days, and other MICAS announcements.
  • Develops strong relationships with national and international art, contemporary art, cultural institutions, and the media.
  • Coordinates press conferences, previews, interviews, and media briefings in collaboration with the media, curatorial and event teams.
  • Monitors media coverage and compiles press reports for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Marketing & Brand Communications

  • Plans and implements integrated marketing campaigns to support exhibitions, events, the gift shop and the museum art programmes.
  • Oversees content for digital platforms, printed materials, newsletters, and promotional brochures.
  • Ensures the visual and written tone of all communications reflects MICAS’s identity and mission.
  • Collaborates with the digital media officers on social media and website updates.

 

Audience Development

  • Provides new ideas to the marketing team to grow diverse audiences, including local, and international visitors.
  • Supports audience engagement strategies through targeted communication.
  • Collects and analyses audience feedback and campaigns performance metrics to refine marketing efforts.

 

Project & Budget Management

  • Plans production schedules, print runs, and maintains relationships with the suppliers.
  • Tracks marketing and publication budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and quality output.
  • Any other task which can be assigned by the Manager (Communications & Marketing) and the Chief Executive Officer to support the events and any other projects organised by MICAS.

Skills and Requirements

  • A recognised Master’s qualification at MQF Level 7 (subject to a minimum of 90 ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent) in publishing or cataloguing or a comparable professional qualification, together with at least one (1) year of relevant work experience.

OR

  • A recognised Bachelor’s degree at MQF Level 6 (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent) in publishing or cataloguing or a comparable professional qualification, together with at least two (2) years of relevant work experience.

OR

  • Public officers in Scale 12 or higher, as well as public sector employees performing duties within the Public Service or RSSL employees at a comparable level of responsibility, all with at least three (3) years relevant work experience.

 

  • Knowledge of the contemporary art landscape, both locally and internationally will be an asset.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English and Maltese.
  • Strong visual literacy and understanding of contemporary art design principles.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) is an asset.
  • Experience using CMS (Content Management System), email marketing platforms, and social media tools.
  • Experience in producing high-end catalogues and publications is an asset.
  • Excellent organisational, verbal and written communications skills.
  • General attention to detail.
  • Fluency in both the Maltese and English language.

Details of Contract

The salary attached to the post of Senior Officer (Marketing & Publications) is €27,318 per annum as per Grade 6 of the Public Cultural Organisations Structure. The salary raises annually by €447 up to a maximum of €30,000 per annum (as at 2025).

The chosen applicant shall be entitled to a performance bonus up to a maximum of 10% per annum and an entity class allowance of €750 per annum which is also included in the financial package.

Original certificates and/or testimonials must be presented for verification at the interview.

Public sector employees must provide records for their paid leave, unpaid leave, and sick leave for the past four (4) years. Additionally, they must also submit any records of disciplinary actions taken against them. If the applicant does not submit such records, it will be assumed that no disciplinary action was ever taken.
