Opened in October 2024, MICAS will not only become a showcase for local contemporary artists but will also engage with international institutions to present ground breaking works by acclaimed artists from all over the world.

MICAS aims to positively energise Malta’s cultural ecology and impact that of the Euro-Mediterranean region it inhabits. The MICAS mission is to be an advocate of contemporary art by raising public awareness to the significance of the visual arts in contemporary life, and by bringing to the forefront the way art and artists help mediate and interpret the world we live in.

MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and the Arts sector.

The Malta International Contemporary Art Space is seeking applications from suitable candidates to perform duties as Office Attendant (Retail) cited below.  This post is on a full-time basis and is subject to a probational period of 6 (six) months.

Reporting to the Manager (Retail), Financial Controller and Chairperson; the Office attendant (Retail) will be required to assist the Manager (Retail) in the MICAS Galleries shop, serve customers, arrange merchandise and process sales transactions; monitor the activities of people in the shop and also resolve customer issues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for customers in shop.
  • Assist customers by answering their questions, checking stock availability, and processing their purchases.
  • Handle customer complaints, product returns, and any other in-store issues that may arise in a professional manner.
  • Work the cash register and any other technology related to our POS system (e.g., company computer, tablet, etc.).
  • Inform customers about special promotions and deals to encourage them to purchase our products and/or services.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, tidy, and organised at all times.
  • Keep an eye on company stock levels and restock when necessary or inform the Retail Manager if something is out of stock.
  • Perform stock related duties, including returning, packing and labelling stock items.
  • Carry out periodical stock-taking exercises as required or requested by the Retail Manager
  • Shall perform any additional duties as requested by the Financial Controller, Retail Manager and Chairperson

The Office Attendant (Retail) will be working on shift basis up to thirty (30) hours per week.  Hours required includes evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Additional work hours may be necessary to meet the requirements of this job position,  especially during MICAS events. The responsibilities and required interactions of this position are not conducive to remote work.

The salary attached to the post shall be €13,852.80 per annum at Grade 8 within the Public Cultural Organisations Grading and a salary structure raising by an annual increment of €317 up to a maximum of €15,276.75.

Eligible applicants will be interviewed by a Selection Board to assess their suitability to carry out the duties mentioned above.

Eligibility requirements:

Applicants must by the closing time and date of submission of the application be in possession of a recognised:

  1. Must be proficient in the use of the Maltese and English languages both written and oral;
  2. QF Level 3 in Mathematics, Maltese, and English OR Three (3) years’ work experience in general office/cashier experience.
  3. Clean police conduct
  4. Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, presentation and communication skills (written  and oral in Maltese and English) and customer service skills.
  5. Knowledge of general office practices/procedures and basic accounting methods for the daily handling of Shop cash.
  6. Ability to work independently or as member of a team on assigned duties with minimum supervision.
  7. Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, on weekends and on holidays on a shift-basis. 
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with retail management software.

 

Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials, copies of which should be attached to the application which should include a detailed Curriculum Vitae, covering letter and where applicable Service and Leave Form (GP 7) addressed to the HR Manager by email on people@micas.art by not later than noon (Central European Time) of Monday, 2nd December 2024.

Original certificates and/or testimonials are to be invariably produced for verification at the interview.

In case of Public Service/Sector employees, these are to present their paid leave/unpaid leave/sick leave records for the last four (4) years, including any records of any disciplinary actions that may have been taken (in the absence of such record it will be understood that no disciplinary action was ever taken).
