Assistant (Graphic Design)

Expressions of Interest – MICAS/EOI/5/2025

MICAS is looking for a dynamic and experienced Assistant (Graphic Design) to work closely to and realise the MICAS vision and mission.

The service will be remunerated at €12.02 per hour excluding VAT. This is a two (2) year ‘Contract for Service’ that has the possibility of being renewed for another one (1) year.

 

Background

MICAS is designed to strengthen Malta’s cultural infrastructure by providing a platform for contemporary art and internationalisation.

MICAS is not only a showcase for local contemporary artists but also collaborates with international institutions to present ground-breaking works by acclaimed artists from around the world. MICAS aims to energise Malta’s cultural ecology and positively impact the wider Euro-Mediterranean region.

Our mission is to advocate for contemporary art by raising public awareness of its significance in modern life and highlighting how art and artists help interpret and shape the world we live in.

MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and Arts sector.

 

Services Required

The selected applicant will assist the Senior Officer (Graphic Design) and will also be assigned tasks by the Manager (Communications & Marketing) and the Chief Executive Officer.

 

Design Support

  • Assists in the creation of marketing materials (e.g., social media graphics, flyers, presentations, email templates, short videos).
  • Uses tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar to design visual content.
  • Helps maintain brand consistency across all materials.

 

Clerical & Administrative Support

  • Organises and maintains digital marketing files and assets.
  • Supports the organisation, selection, and editing of photos.
  • Assists with data entry, campaign performance tracking, Google Drive organisation, and contact list updates.
  • Schedules and prepares materials for marketing meetings or presentations.
  • Supports events logistics (e.g., printing, packing, coordinating materials).
  • Keeps an updated and clearly labelled inventory of all marketing materials.
  • Maintains direct communication with photographers and videographers regarding event updates and folder organisation.
  • Adheres to strict deadlines.

 

General Support

  • Conducts basic online research (e.g., competitor analysis, trends).
  • Assists with managing and updating social media platforms under supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the marketing team.
  • Carries out any additional tasks assigned by the Manager (Marketing & Communications) or the Chief Executive Officer in support of events or other MICAS’s projects.

 

Working hours

The selected applicant will be working an average of forty (40) hours per week.  While the schedule will generally align with standard office hours, the selected applicant may be required to work additional hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly in the lead-up to and during events.

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

By the closing time and date of this EOI, applicants must be in possession of:

  • A recognised first degree (MQF Level 6) (subject to minimum of 180 ECTS/ECVET credits) in Digital Arts or a related field, and at least one year of experience in design and programming.
  • Basic knowledge of design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar).
  • Ability to read and write in both Maltese and English.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • A reliable, efficient, and proactive attitude, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure before and during events.
  • Proven knowledge of Malta’s cultural sector.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with graphic design, content creation, and scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
  • An interest in branding, visual communication, or digital marketing.
