“The Sedan Chair in Malta” is the second book in the “Great Exhibitions Revisited” series, exploring Malta’s rich history with sedan chairs, closely linked to the flamboyant Knights of St. John. Blending historical research with artistic insights and anecdotes, the book tells the story of these chairs, used ceremonially until the 1930s. It recalls a long-lost era, appealing to readers of all ages. The 1993 exhibition at Mdina’s Co-Cathedral Museum showcased the largest known collection of sedan chairs. Many of these chairs were preserved through their use in religious traditions, specifically for transporting the Holy Eucharist, ensuring their survival into modern times.
