Expression of Interest

MICAS is looking for a dynamic and experienced Part-Time Office Attendant (Visitor Services) to work closely to and realise the MICAS vision and mission.

Background

MICAS is intended to strengthen Malta’s cultural infrastructure by providing a platform for contemporary art and internationalisation. With its launch, Malta is about to take a great step forward and become a proactive player in the contemporary art world.

Scheduled to open in Autumn 2024, MICAS will not only become a showcase for local contemporary artists but will also engage with international institutions to present groundbreaking works by acclaimed artists from all over the world.

MICAS aims to positively energise Malta’s cultural ecology and impact that of the Euro-Mediterranean region it inhabits. The MICAS mission is to be an advocate of contemporary art by raising public awareness to the significance of the visual arts in contemporary life, and by bringing to the forefront the way art and artists help mediate and interpret the world we live in.

MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and the Arts sector.

  

Services Needed

The selected applicant will report to the Manager (Events & Logistics). S/he will also be required to assist in issuing admission tickets and collecting cash, greet visitors and be assigned general reception duties.

Main Responsibilities

  • Greets and directs visitors.
  • Collects admission money when tickets are required, and issues tickets.
  • Sells catalogues, books, postcards, and other souvenirs in the MICAS Gift Shop.
  • Performs general reception duties such as answering phones and emails; maintaining records or taking bookings.
  • Helps to keep the reception area clean and tidy.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing the booking function.
  • Ensures complete and correct reconciliations and end of day reporting.
  • Ensures proper safeguarding of box office cash.
  • Assumes responsibility for the management of the back-end functions of the booking system.
  • Assumes responsibility for the preparation of timely internal reporting as requested by management.
  • Performs any additional duties as requested by the Manager (Events & Logistics) and Chairperson.
 

Working Hours

The selected applicant will work up to 20 hours per week as required to cover the shifts of Office Attendants (Visitor Services), including weekends and public holidays.  Additional hours, including evenings, may be required, particularly in the lead-up to and during MICAS events.

Skills and Requirements

By the closing time and date of this expression of interest, applicants must be in possession of:

– A qualification recognised as MQF Level 3 in Maths, Maltese, and English OR three (3) years’ work experience in an office or as a cashier.

– A clean police conduct.
– A well-developed interpersonal, organisational, presentation and communication skills (written and oral in Maltese and English) and customer service skills.
– Knowledge of general office practices/procedures and basic accounting methods for the daily handling of MICAS Gift Shop’s cash.
– Ability to work independently or as member of a team on assigned duties with minimum supervision.
– Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, on weekends and on holidays.

– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with retail management software.

Contract for Service Terms

Payment: Hourly fee of €9.10 excluding VAT.

Contract: This is a three (3) year ‘Contract for Service’ that has the possibility of being renewed for another year.

Working Hours: The work schedule is on a part-time basis to replace the Office Attendants (Visitor Services) when they are on vacation or sick leave. Additional work hours may be necessary to meet the requirements of this job position, especially during MICAS events. The responsibilities and required interactions of this position are not conducive to remote work.
