American artist Michele Oka Doner invites us to celebrate the rich reward of the natural world by taking hold of all of the elements of earth and making them more permanent. Having always understood nature as necessary to her own development, Oka Doner began intuitively as a child collecting earthly objects that were to become the signs and symbols of her work. Seeing her spacious New York apartment as a ‘laboratory for living’, Oka Doner considers the immediate and very intimate space of her home studio, as the natural location to nurture her creativity, in a way that sees the world beyond her window as a mirror image of her life spaces.

The MICAS in Conversation is a series of short conversations between art critic Rajesh Punj and a selection of Maltese and international artists on the involving effect of space on their art practice against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications.

MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and the Arts sector. MICAS will be realised through state funded restoration of historical fortifications and is an EU co-funded project that will deliver the MICAS internal galleries through the European Regional Development Fund in 2022.
